7 Actionable Ways Your Organization Can Advance Menstrual Equity

From solo enterprises, to nonprofits, to mega-corporations – any organization can make a HUGE impact in the menstrual equity space.

These actions don’t just bring our mission to life; they also demonstrate allyship from leaders and make employees who menstruate feel valued and dignified in their place of work.

1. Provide free menstrual products in your office(s)

Did you know the Government of Canada implemented a policy in 2023 to provide free menstrual products in all of its workplace buildings? It’s time for the rest of Canada’s workplaces to follow suit!

Providing free menstrual products to your employees is one of the most powerful acts of allyship because it…

  • Makes menstruators feel seen and safe in the workplace

  • Improves efficiency by reducing distractions and distress around managing a period

  • Promotes a positive, equitable workplace culture your employees will take pride in

  • Reduces the stigma around menstruation as well as the medical and psychological impacts of overusing disposable products (or not using any at all)

2. Host a Packing Party

For an engaging and impactful team-building activity, join the Period Purse for a product packing party at our storage facility in Etobicoke!

In two hours, you and your team will learn all about period poverty in Canada and how we’re fighting it together. You’ll also get the chance to participate directly in our mission by counting, sorting and packing period products that will later be delivered to local menstruators in need.

3. Bring in an educator from the Period Purse for a period-positive presentation

Our free period education program is for folks of all ages. Bring us in for a Lunch & Learn or slot us into your list of speakers at your next conference – in-person or virtually!

From sustainable period care, to period poverty advocacy in Canada, to talking to kids about periods – we have a period positive-presentation for everyone.

4. Run a product drive

Running a period product Mini-drive is a great way to engage your community and make a difference in the lives of local menstruators experiencing period poverty

By signing up to run a product drive with us, we’ll help you make it a big success through guidance from our handbook and our engagement coordinators!

5. Become a product donation drop-off location for us

What if you could facilitate the distribution of period products to local menstruators in need?

Public-facing Toronto businesses can do just that by becoming a product drop-off location

Contact our Engagement Coordinator to get started today.

6. Collaborate with us on an event

Interested in hosting some sort of event with us to promote menstrual health and period equity? Perhaps a pad-making workshop, a panel, a fundraiser, or an educational initiative? Feel free to reach out

7. Donate to The Period Purse: Canada’s first registered menstrual equity charity

No matter the size or frequency, your gift will directly empower our outreach, education, and advocacy programs for a future where menstruation is treated and experienced with dignity by everyone.

Supporting The Period Purse is supporting a true grassroots movement that has blossomed into a national charity with proven, large-scale positive impacts

By championing the menstrual movement in one of these 7 ways, you have the power to make the world a better place and make the office a more equitable space for people with periods – all at the same time. How exciting is that?!
