Calls to Action - The Period Purse

Menstrual Equity Starts With All of Us

Menstrual equity grows through collective action. Whether you get involved as an individual, a community group, or a workplace, your efforts help break stigma, remove barriers, and expand access to period products and education. Together, our actions create meaningful and lasting change.

Period-Friendly Workplace: Stantec

Stantec Toronto participated in the first SITC volunteer event with The Period Purse back in 2023, and we have returned every year since. These events have helped us engage employees and advocate for period care in the workplace. In July 2024 we began providing period products in all our bathrooms, following a conversation stemming from that year’s SITC event at TPP.

We offer a continuous supply of menstrual products openly in our washrooms. We held, and commit to continuing to hold, office-wide menstrual product drives to collect products for donation, and continue to engage with The Period Purse in packing parties and other efforts to support a period-positive work environment. These efforts have opened conversations and helped reduce stigma around menstruation in our workplace and we look forward to continuing our work with The Period Purse.

Period-Positive School: St Clements - Menstrual Advocacy Club

It all started with one student with a passion for equity, courage to ignite change, and curiosity around periods.

In 2019 our students initiated a Menstrual Advocacy Club dedicated to increasing access to period products, destigmatizing periods and aligning with the larger menstrual equity movement in our community; both within our school and to the neighbourhood beyond our front doors.

Each year the Menstrual Advocacy Club invites an educator from The Period Purse to introduce our students to period poverty and inequity. We take time to reflect on what we can do as a school community to remove barriers to period products and education in our community and commit to running a period product drive to ensure our learning is put into action.

We maintain menstrual equity in our space by openly talking about periods and starting initiatives to destigmatize the topic. Initiatives include our annual menstrual product drive and packing party to donate to the community through The Period Purse. Additionally, we are beginning to start an initiative where we teach students how to make cloth pads to reduce waste around period products. In the Menstrual Advocacy Club we are devoted to not only educating students about periods, but teaching our community how to remove barriers and become more environmentally friendly.
